چکیده

−Stable hydrocarbon oil (hexadecane, C16)/nonionic surfactant (HCO-60, Span 80)/water system oil-inwater nanoemulsions were prepared by the phase inversion composition method at elevated temperature. To minimize droplet size, the composition ratio for stable nanoemulsions, we experimented by changing the HLB value, oil/surfactant ratio, and droplet volume fraction. When the HLBmix value 11, the nanoemulsions show a minimal sample droplet size of 360.3 nm. By varying the oil/surfactant ratio from 0.6 to 1.4, we found the optimum oil/surfactant ratio to be approximately 0.6, which corresponds to the minimum droplet size of 71.8 nm. We also varied the droplet volume fraction; when the droplet volume fraction is 0.06, the droplet size is very small. For the emulsion with the minimal droplet size, the polydispersity index is less than 0.3, which reflects a good monodispersity of the nanoemulsion. Viscosity and electrical conductivity measurements were carried out for determining the internal structure of the bicontinuous phase during the emulsification. When the water content ranges from 4 to 6 w/w%, the systems may have a bicontinuous or lamellar phase. Oil-in-water nanoemulsion stability assessment was performed by observing the droplet size as a function of storage time; we did not observe any change in droplet size over the course of a month.

Investigation of the effect of different parameters on the phase inversion temperature O/W nanoemulsions

Objective(s): Nanoemulsions are a kind of emulsions that can be transparent, translucent (size range 50-200 nm) or “milky” (up to 500 nm). Nanoemulsions are adequatly effective for transfer of active component through skin which facilitate the entrance of the active component . The transparent nature of the system and lack of the thickener and fluidity are among advantages of nanoemulsion. Mate...

Formation, Characterization and Stability of Nanoemulsions Prepared by Phase Inversion

Formation and stability of n-undecane in water nanoemulsions prepared by EIP method (Emulsion Inversion Point) in the presence of two nonionic surfactants were studied. In the study, the influences of surfactant concentration, HLB value and oil–to–water ratio on the particle size and distribution were investigated. The stability of emulsions was evaluated from changes in particle size distribut...

A Detailed Review on Nanoemulsion Drug Delivery System

Nanoemulsions are submicron sized emulsions that are under investigation as drug carriers for improving the delivery of therapeutic agents. These are the thermodynamically stable isotropic system in which two immiscible liquids are mixed to form a single phase by means of appropriate surfactant and cosurfactant. Nanoemulsion droplet sizes fall typically in the range of 20200nm and shows narrow ...

A General Route for Nanoemulsion Synthesis Using Low-Energy Methods at Constant Temperature.

The central dogma of nanoemulsion formation using low-energy methods at constant temperature-popularly known as the emulsion inversion point (EIP) method-is that to create O/W nanoemulsions, water should be added to a mixture of an oil and surfactant. Here, we demonstrate that the above order of mixing is not universal and a reverse order of mixing could be superior, depending on the choice of ...

Nanometric-Scaled Emulsions (Nanoemulsions)

Nanotechnology, shortened to nanotech, is the study of the controlling of matter on an atomic and molecular scale. Generally, nanotechnology deals with structures sized between 1 to 100 nanometer in at least one dimension and involves developing materials or devices within that size. The use of nanotechnology in the field of pharmaceutics and drug delivery has grown over the last few years, so ...
